THE FRENCH QUARTER

ART DIRECTION, REBRANDING, TYPOGRAPHY

The French Quarter is the oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, one of the oldest cities in North America. The French Quarter as a whole has been designated as a National Historic Landmark, with numerous buildings that are separately deemed significant. It is a prime tourist destination because of its extensive history and culture.

PROBLEM

Despite being a huge tourist destination, the French Quarter lacks a clean and cohesive brand that communicates the culture and history that makes the French Quarter the magical, fascinating place it is.

SOLUTION

A brand system that reflects the culture and history in a fresh and modern way.

IDENTITY

Inspired by the iconic New Orleans water meter, I designed a badge reminiscent of the meter but also of old French and Spanish crests. The three stars

resemble the three fleurs-de-lis in the New Orleans flag. They represent the principles of government, liberty, and fraternity. Water is shown to reference

“Crescent City,” a nickname New Orleans has earned due to the sharp bend the Mississippi River makes along the edge of the French Quarter.
